Services

Every construction project is different, and the way it is delivered should be too.

Murphy & Sons, Inc. offers a full range of commercial and industrial construction services so owners can choose the delivery method that best fits their budget, schedule, and level of involvement. From early planning through final closeout, our Southaven-based team has guided projects across Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Alabama since 1977.

In-house capabilities

Full-Service General Contracting

As a general contractor, Murphy & Sons manages every trade, schedule, and safety program on your job site. Unlike builders who subcontract nearly everything, we keep key capabilities in-house:

  • Site analysis: Evaluating soils, drainage, access, utilities, and zoning before you commit to a design
  • Preliminary design: Early layouts and concepts that help you understand cost and feasibility
  • Concrete: Foundations, slabs, paving, and structural concrete performed and inspected by our own crews
  • Permits: Navigating local, county, and state permitting so approvals don't stall your schedule
  • Quality control: Inspections and documentation at every phase to confirm work meets plans, specs, and code
What we deliver

Our Core Services

Construction Management

Our construction management services give you an experienced advocate who oversees cost, schedule, quality, and safety from design through completion. Construction management is ideal for complex projects, projects where the scope is still evolving, and owners who want transparency and control. Our team provides full-time supervision, enforces strict safety programs, and checks in regularly so your goals are always being met.

Design-Build

With design-build, one contract covers both design and construction. Architects, engineers, and builders work as a single team from the start, which reduces costly redesigns, speeds up schedules, and gives you one point of responsibility. Design-build works well for offices, schools, industrial buildings, shelters, and nearly any facility type.

Preconstruction

The most important decisions on any project are made before construction begins. Our preconstruction services include budgeting, scheduling, constructability reviews, value engineering, and risk assessments. Early collaboration helps avoid rework, keeps goals on target, and keeps your project on budget.

Project Management

Complex projects have many moving parts and shifting targets. Our project management services coordinate planning, design, procurement, construction, and commissioning, whether you are building on a single site or managing improvements across multiple locations. We control costs, protect scope, and keep everyone accountable.

Special Projects

Not every project fits a preset category. Our Special Projects Group delivers flexible, turnkey solutions for renovations, building expansions, office remodels, senior care facility upgrades, guardrail and bollard installation, and other unique needs. These projects get the same leadership and quality standards as our largest builds.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between construction management and design-build?

In design-build, one company holds a single contract for both design and construction. In construction management, the owner typically contracts with the designer separately while the construction manager oversees cost, schedule, and building. Both reduce risk compared to traditional design-bid-build.

Can you help if we haven't hired an architect yet?

Yes. Through design-build and preconstruction, we can assemble the design team, develop early budgets, and help you evaluate sites before you commit.

Do you perform concrete work in-house?

Yes. Concrete is one of our in-house specialties, which gives us better control over quality and schedule on foundations, slabs, and paving.

Do you handle permitting?

Yes. We manage permit applications and coordinate with local building officials in each state where we work.

Do you take on renovation and remodel projects?

Absolutely. Our Special Projects Group handles renovations, additions, office remodels, and upgrades to occupied buildings.
